Direct thermal or thermal transfer?
Direct thermal labels are heat-sensitive. The printer marks the label itself, so there is no ribbon to buy. They suit labels with a short working life, such as shipping labels.
Thermal transfer printers use a ribbon to put the print onto the label, which gives a longer-lasting result. The label and the ribbon have to suit each other and the printer.
If you are not sure which kind your printer uses, give us its make and model.
