About this product
A Marcy scale is a direct-reading scale for finding the density, or specific gravity, of a liquid or a slurry. A slurry, also called a pulp, is a mix of liquid and fine solids.
You fill a container that holds a fixed volume, usually 1000 cc, until the liquid overflows through the opening in its side so the volume is always exactly the same. You then hang the container on the scale and read the result straight off the dial.
The outer ring of the dial shows the weight of the sample. The inner rings show the percentage of solids in the mix for a given specific gravity, so you do not need to work anything out by hand. Interchangeable dials cover light and heavy materials.
Marcy scales are widely used in mining and mineral processing to check the density of pulp and keep a process running at the right strength.
Good for
- Checking the density of liquids and slurries
- Finding the percentage of solids in a pulp
- Mining, mineral processing and other plants that run on slurries

Tell us what you need and we will come back to you with a quote. It helps to include:
- What liquid or slurry you need to weigh.
- The density or solids range you expect, if you know it.
- Whether you also need spare dials or containers.
- How many scales you need.
